Are you planning to retire in the not-so-distant future? Perhaps you should start planning for it now. One of the most important ways you can do this is to make sure you have a place to live when you do retire. Have you ever thought of buying a condominium along a stretch of your favorite beach? That would really make you look forward to retiring. Why the beach? Let’s examine this.
If you have never been a fan of the beach, then a beachfront condo is not for you. However; if you are one of those people who enjoys all the perks a beach has to offer, then you would be forever happy to have a home there. Maybe you adore watching the waves come in, collecting seashells, watching the sun rise or set over the water. These are some personal reasons you might want to live there. There are also some more practical ones; such as if you are thinking of renting it out (or re-selling it,) a place by the beach can be quite desirable to a prospective tenant. It would also be worth considerably more money than a non-beachfront condo.
Why buy a condo instead of a house (near the beach?) If you will be living there with a large family, then you WILL want a house to accommodate them. However; if it is just yourself and perhaps a spouse then a condo is much smaller and easier for you to keep clean than a house. Plus you would not have to worry about keeping up a yard. If you choose to live on any of the higher floor levels, then your view would be far more spectacular than if you are in a house with only one or two floors.
The best reason of all to buy a beachfront condo is for your pure pleasure. Perhaps this is something you have always dreamed of doing. In that case go for it! If you are lucky enough to have a work-from-home profession then don’t wait until you retire – move to your beachfront condo now! Just think how nice it will be to sit on your patio or terrace and watch the seabirds flying overhead. Or maybe stroll along the beach every evening with your sweetheart under the moonlight. If you live there, the beach will never be closed to you. If you have children, you can designate in your will that you want this property left to them after your passing. Then they can enjoy it for many years to come as well.
One word of caution when selecting a beachfront condo, make certain it has provisions to ward off effects of a storm surge if there is ever a major storm there. Perhaps it should be a considerable distance from the ground and/or have adequate construction that will not just fall apart in the event of a storm. After all, this is something that could definitely occur. You don’t want to lose your investment in your beachfront condo, now do you? The best thing you can do is make sure your condo is prepared correctly, should such a storm occur.
